My goodness it is amazing what these babies can accomplish in a month. I have been keeping a list of all of the new things that Sullivan can say and the adorable things that he has been doing and all of the milestones Sela has been reaching. At Sullivan's 18 month appointment the Dr asked if Sullivan could say at least 10 words. We were fairly certain he wasn't up to ten but when we really started counting he had about eight and now just 8 weeks later he is up to well over 30. And to think we were worried about him after that appointment! He is so unbelievably smart and understands so much. Well over a month ago he and I were sitting in the living room and he had a glass of water which spilled on the carpet. I said 'uh-oh Sullivan, you better go get a towel so that we can clean this mess up". Of course I didn't actually expect him to clean up the mess and he walked away and started climbing up the stairs. I didn't think anything of it until I turned around and there he was coming down the stairs dragging a giant white bath towel down the stairs, pulled it across the living room to the puddle of water and tried his best to clean up the spill. It is times like that I realize just how much he understands! A few days ago he was taking a bath and he looked at me and said "Mac" for the first time, which is the name of his little friend. I asked if he would like to see Mac and he said "Bye-bye, to, Mac". I am assuming this is because I always preface going to see someone with "do you want to go bye-bye to see so and so." Dada was one of Sullivan's first words and Mama came a little later but rarely made an appearance. Usually only when he was hurt or really sad; needless to say, I was happy it didn't come out much since it was only under such sad conditions. Now Sullivan says Mama and Dada all day everyday and we love it! He especially loves to point out what is mine and Brian's. He will point to my shoes, cup, purse, pen, pretty much anything he has seen me use and say "Mama" and the same for anything that is Brian's. He also learned the word "mine" so he definitely has the concept of ownership down. A few weeks ago Sullivan was in the bath with his rubber alphabet and rubber duckies. I explained to him once that I was going to throw all of the toys into the air and when they hit the water he needs to find the duck. As soon as the toys hit the water he quickly looked around the tub, pointed at the duck and said "they-he-is!"
Some additional words that he can say include; hot, football, ball, duck, uck (for yuck), stuck, rock, hi, please please (for yes please), uh-oh bonk (if something falls down), poop, book, moo (for a cow), meow (for a cat), cock-a-doodle-do (his own version of course), ma'am ma (for Grandma), ticko-ticko (when he tickles Sela), whew-hew, yes (which sounds more like "ice"), mmm-mmm (if something tastes good) and he can also count to three although this sounds like "two-nah-two"! He can also identify a football, basketball, soccer ball, baseball, tennis ball and golf ball.
He is amazing at following directions and has been a huge help to Brian with some projects around the house. We turned our dining room into a play room and Sullivan and Brian worked really hard assembling the shelves with canvas bins. Brian was able to ask Sullivan for tools and parts and he would run over to get them and bring them to Brian.
Sullivan has always been exceptionally coordinated but I realized the extent of it the other day when he was carrying a plastic cup across the kitchen when it slipped out of his hands. Before the cup fell past his waist he caught it by the rim of the glass with one hand and then repositioned it against his chest so that he could once again grab it with both hands. Then he just continued on his way as if nothing had happened.
Sela is growing by leaps and bounds. She is the happiest baby. She made this amazing turn around three months and has completely settled into our family and routine. She rolls over now from her back to her tummy. She has made it from her tummy over to her back once but we are still working on mastering that skill. She holds her feet while she is laying on her back and she love to play with her hands. She absolutely adores Sullivan. If she is in her jumper and she starts to fuss I tell Sullivan, "make your sister smile" and he runs over, drops down to his knees and either tries to tickle her or smiles at her in an attempt to get her to smile back. She laughs all the time now and is starting to mimic sounds that we make at her. She is settling into a nap routine, she does great in the car now and as of a week ago she is taking a bottle! Turns out the little lady just wanted her bottle warmer than the average baby.
Brian and I feel so unbelievably blessed and thank God every day for putting these two little amazing souls in our lives. What a journey its been.
