30

Yesterday I turned thirty.  I remember having a conversation with my dear friend Laura, when we were early-twenty-somethings, unmarried and childless.  We were out of college (so glad that's over, the working world is going to be so much better) and aimless in our careers and we decided that even though we were clueless now our lives would surely be on track by the time we were thirty.
Nope.
Married?  Check.  Kids?  Two with one on the way, check.  House?  Check.  Career?  Wiping faces, changing diapers, playdates.  Not really sure if a check is warranted.
Is my life on that track I dreamed of in my early twenties?  If that track includes a clean house, responsibly managing my time, having a five year daily plan, exercising, weekly date nights, showering on a daily basis, then no.  What have I accomplished?  I have a husband who is my best friend.  I have two of the happiest, funniest, sweetest kiddos and another little bundle on the way.  We are surrounded by friends and family that we endleslessly love and on occassion (when company comes over) I can rally and get our house looking presentable.  I am more aware of the little things that make me so very happy; a good glass of red wine (oh how I've missed you for the last five months), watching a movie with Bri, a new sweater, Instagram, crawling into bed with Sullivan in the morning, running (love and hate), decorating our house (not good at it but really do love it), finding a good project and talking Brian into building it....and then taking most of the credit, having family over for dinner, lulu lemon, listening to Sela talk, watching Sela dance, planning for our family's future, Sela's love of shoes (always Sullivan's, always a different pair, never matching), cooking for my family, going out to dinner, the Fall, boat rides with the kids, getting my hair cut, Red Robin french fries (especially when I'm pregnant), Sullivan's singing, dreaming of what this new baby will look like, going on dates with Brian, sitting on the porch with Brian after the babies are asleep.  It really is all of the small things that add up to this crazy happy little life.

It isn't always pretty but I sure do love it.

Here's to the next thirty and the next thirty after that!
