Before I was ever pregnant with Sela, I remember telling my Mom that I didn't understand how you could love another baby as much as your first. It was just more than I could comprehend when I thought about how deeply and madly in love I was with Sullivan. It just wasn't possible to duplicate or expand a love that great. I remember she told me that she understood my confusion but to trust her, 'it just works'. Oh Mom, how right you were....
I am so completely and totally head-over-heels in love with this baby. I am smitten. I can't stop holding her and kissing her and smelling her and just reveling in the fact that she is ours and she's perfect. Even as her cry pulls my exhausted body from sleep and a warm bed I instantly settle into a place of gratitude and contentment when I see her precious face and swaddled little body peering up from her bassinet. Newborns are hard, there is no denying it but every smile and coo, nursing and rocking refuels you to make it through another day and the ability to nurture this amazing relationship and journey that is just beginning. I love you Sela.
