My Own

Parenting is a never ending journey with a consistent pattern of inconsistency.  Brian and I try so hard to be good parents and most days we feel like we have earned an "A" for effort if nothing else but it is hard to not constantly question our method and approach and wonder "are we truly qualified for this job?"  If the measure of a good parent was only based on love we would be over qualified to say the least but it is hard to navigate through all of the opinions and suggestions of friends, family, parenting literature and the media.  I suppose no one has a perfect approach and every family, child and parent is different and dynamic, making this parenting thing a growing and morphing entity all its own.  I constantly question myself wondering if Sullivan is too young to be put in time out, if Sela will be "spoiled" because we hold her so much, will holding Sullivan and letting him cry an extra long time after he falls and scrapes his knee make him less tough when he's older?  Maybe, but I know that everything we do is with love and it feels right and that has to be worth something.  What I do know is that I love our little family and my kids more than I knew was humanly possible and although it can be challening to say the least it is most importantly a privelege.  Its a privlege to get to have children, to get to be a parent, to have the opportunity to navigate through the challenges and the triumphs, the sleepless nights and the first steps.  Its a privlege and a blessing to call these amazing people my own.
